Farmers suffered huge losses due to floods: Goa Dairy

Chairman urges govt to compensate these farmers soon

PONDA: Goa Dairy chairman Durgesh Shirodkar on Wednesday said the dairy farmers have suffered huge losses to the tune of several lakhs of rupees on account of the recent floods. 

Addressing media persons, Shirodkar said, ”I visited at least four farmers who suffered massive losses after their cattle died in the floods. Not only cattle, bagayats too were destroyed. Goa Dairy will provide financial help to them.” 

He urged the government to provide compensation to these farmers at the earliest. 

Providing details of the farmers, who suffered huge losses, he said at Sancorda, 20 cattle including cows and buffaloes  owned by Vaman Nadkarni got washed away. Similarly, 5 buffaloes belonging to Tulsidas Vagekar and 2 cattle owned by Shraddha Jog too met watery grave.

At  Bironda-Valpoi, 10 cattle owned by Jerome got washed away.

The documents of Ganjem Milk Society and another society were destroyed in the floods.
