PONDA: Expressing their displeasure over the Goa Dairy’s “mismanagement”, the dairy farmers have threatened to stage agitation in front of the Goa dairy premises if the management fails to meet their demands within 10 days.
The farmers demanded that Rs 2.50 hike in cattle feed rates be reduced and that they be provided with a subsidy on milk supplied for last one year.
Addressing media persons Dattaprasad Savordekar, who is also the head of the Inquiry Committee appointed at the annual general body of Goa Dairy farmers to probe into Goa Dairy losses, demanded that the Registrar of Cooperative Society (RCS) dissolve the present Board of Directors and conduct thorough probe against the Goa Dairy MD by appointing an administrator to protect the dairy from running into further losses.Savordekar alleged that on account of the faulty decisions of the management the future of 17,000 dairy farmers and their families supplying milk to Goa Dairy is in danger.
He further accused the Goa Dairy of procuring two milk tankers from private milk suppliers from Maharashtra, who supplied adulterated milk to Goa Dairy.
He called for authorities to raid the Goa Dairy premises for such malpractices and expressed concerns that if such malpractices continued then Goa Dairy would face a shutdown, which would affect the livelihood of Goa’s dairy farmers.
He accused the management of failing to conduct proper inquiry against Goa Dairy MD Navso Sawanth, who was suspended by former Chairman Madhav Sahakari alleging scam in Goa Dairy. He alleged that the new chairman Rajesh Faldesai revoked the suspension order of MD without inquiry and gave him a clean chit.
