PONDA: Even as the new chairman of Goa Dairy vowed to restore the ‘lost glory’ of the dairy unit, farmers supplying milk are upset as they have not been paid their dues even for Diwali.

“The festival of lights has begun and we cannot celebrate it as our pending bills have not been cleared by the Goa Dairy. We incur a lot of expenses in maintaining our cattle and hoped that our dues would be cleared for the festive season but not a penny has been deposited in our accounts till date,” lamented the farmers.

The farmers also complained that inflation and rising fodder prices have seriously affected their occupation and has a serious effect on small and marginal dairy farmers thereby rendering business unproductive.

Milk farmers say that at present the Goa Dairy Board of Directors, which is supposed to protect their interests have failed to do so and added that if such a situation had happened during the tenure of the administrator, then the same director would have complained that the government had done injustice on farmers.

However, the Goa Dairy Chairman could not be contacted for his reactions.
