PONDA: After Karnataka farmers gave a seven-day deadline to Sanjeevani Sugar Factory to clear their outstanding bill amount, Goan farmers, too, have demanded the Sanjeevani administration clarify their stand about the future of the sugar factory.
The farmers have also demanded that the sugarcane they would be supplying to Karnataka be weighed in Goa itself, so that, they get proper bill amount. The farmers said they can’t trust the Karnataka sugar factory to weigh their sugarcane.
Rajendra Desai, the president of sugarcane farmers, demanded that their sugarcane be weighed either at Sanjeevani Sugar Factory weighing machine or at Mollem border by Goan authorities before sending it to Karnataka.
Further, he said, the government should give in writing that sugar factory would start next year. He threaten to hold major agitation if the government fails to give a written assurance by Friday that the sugar factory would start operating next year.
