MARGAO: In a tragic incident on the Gudi-Sarzora road in Curtorim, Agnelo Rebello, 19, from Gonsai, lost his life in a drunk driving accident involving multiple vehicles, including two-wheelers and a car.
The collision occurred around 1 am, and two other motorists sustained injuries as well.
The Maina-Curtorim police reported that the accident transpired in front of Godfrey Crusher. The alleged accused, 32-year-old Shelton Felix Furtado, was driving a car from Gudi to Sarzora. Authorities state that Shelton, under the influence of alcohol, was driving recklessly and veered to the extreme right of the road, colliding with two scooters coming from the opposite direction.
Agnelo was badly injured and succumbed to his injuries at the Goa Medical College hospital. Shelton Furtado was subsequently arrested by the police and taken to the South Goa District Hospital for a check on his blood alcohol levels.
In addition, two pillion riders, identified as M Rebello, 17, and A Pereira, 21, sustained injuries in the accident. Furthermore, stray cattle that was on the road at the time was also killed in the collision.
