MARGAO: The South Goa Superintendent of Police has been intimated on the refusal of the Fatorda Police Station to act on complaint against unknown wholesale fish agents/operators of 17 trucks.
The complaint has been filed for commission of offences punishable under the Indian Penal Code.
“It is clear that unknown devious wholesale fish agents/operators of the 17 trucks alongwith others hatched a criminal conspiracy to illegally preserve fish in formalin and thereafter transport the same to Goa, and deceitfully sell the same as fresh/safe fish to the unsuspecting fish eating people of Goa, in order to make huge illegal profit, and pursuant to the conspiracy, brought the formalin preserved fish to Goa on the 11-12/7/2018,” stated the complainant who is a Margao-based advocate.
“Instead of registering a case under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, against the wholesale fish agents/operators and prohibiting the sale of the formalin infused fish and in fact confiscating the same, the Director of FDA, Mrs Jyoti Sardessai caused this formalin laced fish to be released for sale to the general public on a claim that it was safe for human consumption, ostensibly under political pressure or for illegal gratification,” alleged the complainant.
“As the said toxic fish was sold with knowledge that the consumption of the same can lead to death, it is clearly a crime of attempt to commit culpable homicide of the consumers. It is therefore important to investigate into the above matter with utmost seriousness to unearth by whom, when and where the criminal conspiracy was hatched to preserve the fish in formalin,” the complainant demanded.
The complainant has demanded registering of the complaint as it is a cognisable offence under the IPC.
