MARGAO: The 76-year-old woman from Chandrawado, Fatorda, who died due to COVID-19 infection, was laid to rest at the Holy Spirit Cemetery, Margao with religious rites. The woman’s granddaughter and son-in-law were present.

It is learnt that the woman had contracted the infection from Ambelim where she had some family members. The Ambelim outbreak originated from Mangor Hill. At least 5 family members of the woman’s family have been infected with the virus, which has spread to the Salcete taluka.

All the five members have been admitted to the COVID Care Centre at Farmagudi.

The two members had sought permission from the South District Collector to attend the funeral, which was later granted.  Following request, the in-charge allowed the two family members to have a last glimpse of their relative before the burial. Ambelim continues to be the major hotspot in Salcete with 31cases linked to Mangor Hill.

As a precautionary measure, Chinchinim has decided to go in for a voluntary lockdown from June 29 to July 5. The market will remain open from 7 am to 11 am.
