Fatorda MLA launches oxygen concentrator bank

GFP felicitates cremator Abaji, Pedru Arupe Institute

MARGAO: An oxygen concentrator bank was launched for the people of Fatorda constituency with 51 oxygen concentrators on Sunday by Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai who completed 51 years.

“In this era of pandemic when Goans are dying, I do not feel like celebrating my birthday and hence I am launching this bank,” said Vijai.

Those desiring to use the oxygen concentrators will have to call the helpline No. 8888481111 and return the concentrator after 15 days. “This is to provide oxygen for patients at home particularly since lot of people died due to lack of oxygen in the hospitals,” said Vijai.

Earlier Goa Forward Party felicitated Abaji Jagtham who cremates bodies at the Margao crematorium, Serving Humanity which is taking people who died due to COVID to their final resting place irrespective of which religion they belong to and Pedru Arupe Institute that has established a COVID care centre in their premises.

Vijai accused the government of being silent on the COVID scenario in Goa and pointed out that the report by the enquiry committee constituted to study the deaths caused due to lack of oxygen has not been submitted as yet.

“It is seen in recent times that the courts are managing the administration of the State and in such a scenario why should we even have a government?” he asked while pointing out that casinos and night life is on in Goa to promote tourism.

He said it was indeed an irony that none of the tourist hostels of the tourism department are with the government now and all are privatised. He said this is a clear indication that the government is out to sell Goa.

Vijai made a strong plea for all opposition parties coming together as Team Goa so that Goa can be repositioned from being in an “up for sale mode”.

Earlier Vijai planted plants at Rocha Park in Murida, Fatorda and said the target is to plant 1000 plants especially along the Eastern bypass area and these plants will be of local germ plasma which means they will be local trees like jambul, cocum, etc.
