MARGAO: Fatorda MLA and former deputy chief minister Vijai Sardesai on Wednesday inaugurated the “We For Fatorda Night Food Court”, Opp KTC Bus Stand, Margao and streetlights on the road opposite Wholesale Fish Market.
Chairperson of Margao Municipal Council Babita Angle, Vice-Chairperson Tito Cardozo, Gada Traders Association President Prashant Naik and MMC councillors were also present.
Vijai informed that MMC would give another three or four more licences for “gadas” to create the same ambiance of the famous Alankar Theatre, Mapusa, here.
Stressing on cleanliness and hygiene in operating the “Gadas”, Vijai said, “We will cancel licence of ‘gadas’ if they violate any rules. The place will remain as a parking spot as well as a food market at night and warned the ‘gada’ traders not to sublet their businesses.
He also pointed out that Margao ‘gadas’ have become ‘matka gadas’, which won’t be allowed to happen here.
Vijai also announced that the second parking area opposite KTC will have global food court.
“We will have it within six months time. Entertainment, variety, security and cleanliness will be the focus and while it will be a parking area it will also be a hub for global foods,” Vijai added.
“We are not in power and now we will need the people’s support to make Fatorda a model town,” he added.
President of Gada Traders Association Prashant Naik said, “Vijai always wanted to have a Goenkarponn touch to the ‘gadas’. The night food court has the essence and the serving of Goenkarponn now.”
“Cleanliness is the main principle and the market should look spic and span all through. 11 or 11.30 pm MMC will pick the garbage and it’s the responsibility of the ‘gada’ owners to keep garbage separately,” Prashant informed the traders.
Chairperson of MMC Babita asked the ‘gadekars’ to take care of the beauty and essence of the place and promised all the help from MMC.
She also urged Vijai to have such models in other MMC wards too.
