MARGAO: Fatorda Police on Monday arrested 30-year-old Arjun Maruti Kajidoni, a driver by profession, in connection with a double murder reported at Madel within 12 hours.

According to police, Kajidoni, a resident of Madel, allegedly murdered 20-year-old labourer Ravi, and 30-year-old Bhim, a ragpicker in front of a bar in Madel. Another ragpicker Sunil Sawant, aged 45 years, was also injured in the attack.

The incident happened at midnight at around 12.30 on February 3 when Ravi, Bhim and Sunil were having drinks in front of a bar. When Arjun arrived, he found the bar closed and started demanding drinks from Bhim, who refused to do so. There was an altercation, which led to a fight, wherein Arjun attacked the trio and hit Bhim with a laterite stone on his head. He later assaulted Ravi and Sunil with broken bottles.

Bhim and Ravi died on the spot. However, Sunil, who sustained grievous injuries to his face, was lying at the spot. Later, Fatorda Police shifted him to Hospicio, Margao and his condition is reported to be stable.

On receiving information about the incident at around 9 am, the Fatorda Police rushed to the site.

A case vide Cr No 10/2020 u/s 302 and 307 of IPC has been registered at Fatorda Police Station.

The police team led by Margao SDPO Serafin Dias included PIs Kapil Nayak, Melson Colaco, Ravindra Dessai, PSIs Anant Gaonkar, Prashal Dessai, Amin Naik, LPSI Sumedha Naik, HCs Narendra Salgaonkar, Sanjay Dessai, PCs Avinash Naik, Goraknath Gawas, Bablu Zore, Sudhir Talekar, Nagraj Bandekar and Rohan Naik.

The police saw a person moving in a suspicious manner, nabbed him and brought him to the police station. After interrogation him, the accused confessed to have committed the double murder and the attempt to murder.

IGP Jaspal Singh has announced a reward of Rs 25,000 to the team for solving the double murder case.

PI Kapil Nayak is investigating the case under the supervision of Margao SDPO Serafin Dias.
