MARGAO: Fatorda constituency recorded the highest voting percentage of 76.69% in Salcete and while the lowest was in Benaulim with 70.2%. However, it was noticed that there is a drop in voting percentage in every constituency of Salcete as compared to 2017 elections.
Nuvem constituency reported 76.8% wherein a total of 21,830 voted for their candidates. During the last assembly election in 2017, Nuvem had recorded 76.19% voting. Curtorim saw 72.41% with a total number of 21,612 voters exercising their franchise. It was 75.68% at the last hustings.
Total of 23,651 voters exercised their voting rights in Fatorda constituency this time. It is nearly 4% less compared to the 2017 elections, when it was 79.54%
Margao constituency also reported nearly 4% decrease in the voting percentage. In the last election it was 78.6% and showed 74.84% on Monday; 22,082 persons cast their vote to choose the next MLA. The commercial capital of Goa has been ruled by Digambar Kamat for seven consecutive terms.
In Benaulim 20,637 voted with the percentage of 70.2%, whereas it was 74.52% in the 2017 election. There is also a drop of voting percentage in Navelim constituency to almost 6%. Navelim constituency showed 72.8% voting, as a total of 21,032 voters exercised their fundamental right to vote on February 14. However, the constituency had recorded 78.08% in 2017.
Cuncolim recorded 76.15% with 22,481 voters exercising their franchise, with a drop of nearly 1%. It was 77.36% in the 2017 election.
Velim constituency witnessed 22,833 standing in line to cast their votes recording 72.41% with a drop of 3%. It had recorded 75.49% in the last election.
All 56 candidates contesting in the eight constituencies of Salcete taluka, including some heavyweight political leaders such as Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat (Congress), Deputy Chief Minister Babu Ajgaonkar (BJP), besides Filip Neri Rodrigues (NCP), Wilfred D’sa (Independent), Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco (Ind), Clafacio Dias (BJP), Churchill Alemao (TMC), and Vijai Sardesai (GFP).
