Fatorda residents demand scrapping of 10 meter road around Holy Spirit Church

MARGAO: Residents of Fatorda have written to the Chief Town Planner objecting to the conversion of zone and proposed 10 meter road around Holy Spirit Church.
A representation signed by various residents was submitted to the office of the Chief Town Planner. The residents of Ganganelli, Rebello Road, in Povoacao and Modsai wards, near Holy Spirit Church, Margao have in their letter objected to all the conversions shown around Holy Spirit Church as well as the proposed 10 meters road shown in the Outline Development Plan (ODP). They claim that there are many heritage houses around Holy Spirit Church and the area is a conservation zone.
Any commercial development will result in loss of the heritage status of the area. To implement the 10 meters proposed road, many heritage houses will have to be demolished. Also, part of the church property will have to be acquired for the roads. The people of the area are opposed to any such road expansion.
Assuming that the SGPDA has no plans to demolish the heritage houses for expansion of the road, there should be no proposed 10 meters road shown in the areas where it is not possible to expand the current roads without demolishing the heritage houses.
The residents claim that the SGPDA has not done any traffic impact study or social/demographic impact study before changing zones and showing proposed roads in the ODP.
