Fatorda residents voice anger over neglected highway stretch, threaten protest

MARGAO: The citizens of Fatorda voiced their frustration on Wednesday, expressing concern about the dilapidated state of the road stretching from South Goa District Hospital to Old Market Circle.

They have even issued a warning of initiating a protest if the road conditions are not promptly addressed.

The road’s condition has worsened as it was dug up for sewage pipeline installation, said Milagres Fernandes, a local social activist.

“There are hazardous potholes scattered across this road, which pose a serious threat to motorists and pedestrians alike. With the dry spell upon us, it’s high time the PWD initiates immediate road repairs,” Fernandes urged.

Speaking to the media, residents raised questions about the glaring contrast between the road conditions in Fatorda and Margao. Fernandes drew attention to the recent resurfacing of the roads in Margao, which had been washed away.

Expressing bewilderment, he pointed out, “We fail to comprehend why the well-utilised roads in Fatorda, frequented by numerous motorists, are being neglected. While roads in the Margao constituency were rapidly restored after the monsoons, the roads of Fatorda remain unattended. Why the discrepancy?”

The group of citizens delivered an ultimatum, asserting that if the roads in Fatorda aren’t promptly repaired, they would block the same road in protest.
