MARGAO: Madonna Primary School, Fatorda has been declared illegal by the Town and Country Planning Department (TCP) after the school patron failed to prove that no illegalities had been committed while extending the building.
In 2012, Melwin Fernandes had filed a complaint with the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) and the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) that the school building had been extended by two floors without changing the foundation, which could be dangerous for the students. The patron Shaikh Azeem had filed an appeal at the Town and Country Planning and the High Court, after which the case was sent back to the TCP.
In its two-page order on Tuesday, the TCP said that Azeem’s advocate had failed to prove by way of producing documents that there are no illegalities regarding the plot of the school. It dismissed Azeem’s appeal and termed the school building as an illegal construction.
