Locals from Sarzora have complained about a faulty transformer and are upset that their repeated complaints to the authorities for the last three years and even as recent as August 3 have fallen on deaf ears.
In addition to the transformer issue, the public’s complaints to the power department about power fluctuations in the area have fallen on deaf ears. Residents have complained that in the monsoon season, there is no power supply in the village for hours together and it gets extremely difficult and inconvenient at night especially and early in the morning before the children have to leave for school and adults to work.
“The in structure of the transformer is full of rust and is bent at a 60 degree angle. It balances itself with help of wires. The transformer leaks oil which drips on to the distribution box,” said Vincent Cavalho, a complainant. He also pointed out that sparks have been seen at the top of the structure where the main jumper for the three phases is connected.
“Inside the distribution box some of the fuse terminals are not properly plugged. Fuse bases are cracked, fuse carriers are missing from their place and fuse conductors (elements) are directly connected to the fuse terminals. Due to these loose terminals, sparks are seen and the fuses blow off frequently causing power failure especially at night,” added Carvalho. He further pointed out that all the support wires of the transformer are loose and just hanging down. There is no safety to the public as all the safety guard wires below the live wire are hanging.
“With these hazardous conditions and in the monsoon season, I feel that someday or the other, this transformer will cause heavy damage to consumers. Additionally, it is hazardous to students going to school,” read his complaint to the panchayat.
