FC Tuem crowned GFA-Vedanta Women’s Football Champions

MAPUSA: FC Tuem registered a hard fought 1-0 win over Vintage 73 Sports Club to be crowned the GFA-Vedanta Women’s Football Champions, played under floodlights at Duler Stadium, here.

The all-important goal for the winners came in the 72nd minute where a cross by Aniela Barretto was superbly connected by Alisha Tavares which brushed Vintage 73 SC custodian Joseline D’Souza gloves to enter the goal.

Minutes later, Namita Govekar stiff grounder was blocked by Vintage 73 SC goalkeeper for a corner.

In the first session, Vintage 73 SC eves had better ball possession and attacked at the rival goal time and again. In the bargain Aaroshi Govekar’s effort from close was saved by FC Tuem custodian Ria Rajesh.

FC Tuem received the winners cash prize of Rs 15,0000 plus trophy, while Vintage 73 SC had to be content for the runners-up cash prize of Rs 90,000.

Third position was secured by Sesa Football Association. At the prize distribution ceremony, Saptesh Sardesai, CEO Value Added Business, Vedanta Sesa Goa; Dr Caitan Fernandes, President of Goa Football Association (GFA); Dr Chandrakant Shetye, Bicholim Constituency MLA spoke. 

Also present were Leena Verenkar, Head CSR and SCDF – Vedanta Sesa Goa; Jonathan D’Souza, Vice-President, GFA and GFA Bardez Executive Committee members.

Anthony Lobo, stadium Manager, compered and Rocky Mamol proposed a vote of thanks.
