These stalls were stocking and selling un-labeled and misbranded food articles such as chakli, farsan, ladoos, butter chakli, kurkhure and tapioca chips. The food articles did not have all the label declaration as required under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and the Rules and Regulation 2011. The FDA officials led by Sanjot Kudalkar, Senior Food Safety Officer and Sharadha Kutikar, Food Safety Officer later destroyed the items so as to prevent them from being consumed by the general public. All such vendors were also warned not to henceforth stock such un-labeled misbranded food articles at their stalls.
Colva local arrested for rape
MARGAO: Colva police on August 19 arrested accused Vicky Fernandes resident of Majorda on the charge of raping a 18-year-old girl from Quepem. According to police sources the victim girl has complained that accused Fernandes who was in friendly relation with the victim, on August 14, between 1 pm and 2 pm took her to a isolated place at Varca beach and forcibly molested her and sexually assaulted her. He was booked under section 76 IPC. PSI Ritesh TARI is conducting further investigation.
Plaint of forgery, cheating at Margao
MARGAO: D M Kudalkar, RFO mobile squad, South division,_Margao filed a complaint with Margao police to the effect that accused Grinaldo Sebastiao Carvalho prepared two affidavits and filled Form B in the name of Andrade Carvalho and Sebastiao Carvalho and further, that the said accused submitted the documents to complainant office to obtain permission for selling two trees in property surveyed under survey no 74/14, 76/14. An offence under section 465, 468, 471`, 177 and 420 IPC has been registered against Grinaldo and PSI V V Chodankar is investigating.
Escaped under trial rearrested
MARGAO: Irshad Singur, a nineteen-year-old resident of Moti Dongor, Margao, who had escaped from police custody when he was brought to the JMFC court in Margao from Sada jail, Mormugao, on August 14, was rearrested by Margao police on Wednesday. The accused was arrested after he surrendered before JMFC. Accused Singur is charged for committing offence under section 224 IPC. Singur is involved in 6 cases of robbing bags from parked cars in Margao by breaking the windows and two such cases in Calangute. He was arrested on June 17.
PSI assaulted at Colva, one arrested
MARGAO: Colva police on Wednesday arrested accused Ranzil Casmiro M D’Costa, resident of Calata-Majorda for assaulting PSI Xavier Fernandes of Colva police station, while he was discharging his lawful duty. Fernandes suffered injury to his nose and has been admitted at Hospicio Hospital, Margao. According to police the PSI was on Colva-Betalbatim road at 1.10 pm on Wednesday to check traffic violation when he stopped a minor boy of 16 years driving an Aviator scooter. When PSI Fernandes asked him to produced licence he contacted his friend and brother on mobile who rushed to the spot. The brother was informed that he would be fined for allowing his minor and brother to ride the scooter. However D’Costa, the friend of the minor started arguing with the PSI and in a fit of rage punched the PSI on the nose causing injury and bleeding. Accused was immediately arrested and offence under sections 353, 323, 504 IPC registered against him. Further investigation is in progress.
Lad from Loutulim goes missing
MARGAO: A 14-year-old student of Standard X, resident of Loutulim, has been reported as missing from the morning of August 19. The father of the missing boy, a native of Uttar Pradesh working as a security guard and residing at Orgao-Loutulim in his complaint has stated to Maina-Curtorim police that on April 19, his son left home at 7.30 am to Margao to participate in volleyball selection. However as he failed to return the parents searched for him and failing to trace him on Wednesday, August 20 filed a missing report with police. An offence of kidnapping under section 363 IPC and 8 of Goa Children Act has been registered against unknown person and PSI Pradeep Velip in investigating.
Assault plaints at Maina-Curtorim
MARGAO: Maina-Curtorim police has registered complaints and counter complaints relating to an incident at Dicarpale. A complaint was filed by Sabana Mohammad Shabir Shaik, residing near Sai Baba temple-Dicarpale, of trespass, molestation and theft against Walter Dias of Aquem Baixo-Navelim. Sabana has stated that on the morning of August 18, Dias forcefully entered her house and damaged switches causing damage of Rs 2,000 when official of electricity department had come for inspection of her house. Meanwhile Walter Dias also filed a complaint against Michanmad Shabir Sheik and Sance Shaik both residing near Sai Baba temple-Dicarpale accusing the duo that on the morning of August 18, with common intention they assaulted him during inspection of illegal electricity connection and that after assaulting complainant took his mobile worth Rs 10,000. An offence has been registered against accused MIchanmad and Sance by Maina-Curtorim police and PSI RK Velip is investigating both complaints.
Music album release at Margao
MARGAO: Deep Karapurkar’s 5th music album production titled ‘Hazar Zaitam’ will be released on August 23 at 5.30 pm at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao. Hazar Zaitam is a double-CD album with 16 Konkani songs which dwell on the themes of love, beauty and devotion composed by Konkani poets and songwriters Rajay Pawar, Uday Bhembre, Shridhar Kamat, Ramesh Veluskar, Saish Panandikar, late Manoharrai Sardesai, Gauraj Talaulikar and Deep Karapurkar. The performances are by Hariharan, Shaan, Shankar Mahadevan, Nihira Deshpande, O’Luv, Vinod Rathod, Jolly Mukherji, Gautami Hede, Siddharth Mahadevan, Mrunmayee Tirodkar, Rajesh Madgaunkar and Tanvi Valaulikar. Breakthrough surgery at Apollo
PANJIM: A 22-year-old youth underwent laparoscopic surgery for removal of a mass lesion in the centre of the chest that was causing him pain. Dr Abhay Khadke, general and laparoscopic surgeon at Apollo Victor Hospital, operated and removed the mass laparocopically (key-hole surgery) safeguarding the heart, lungs and major blood vessels. Blood loss was minimal and the recovery was uneventful. Apart from these rare cases, routine laparoscopic work in Apollo Victor Hospital includes surgery for appendix, gall stones, hernia, cancers of intestines and surgery for obesity.

21 ICARSatya Narayan puja held at ICAR
