The Food and Drugs Administration Goa (FDA) has uncovered multiple unlicensed and unhygienic food establishments during inspections carried out at Old Market Road, Margao and along the Seraulim–Verna Road, Minister Vishwajit Rane informed.
During the inspection drive, officials seized and destroyed expired and unsafe food items valued at ₹35,600. Additionally, penalties amounting to ₹17,000 were imposed on defaulting units for violations of food safety norms.
The minister said several food businesses were found operating without valid licences and maintaining poor hygiene standards, posing potential risks to public health.
He added that owners and operators were advised on maintaining cleanliness, adopting safe food handling practices, proper storage and disposal of waste, and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations.
Rane reiterated that the government will continue regular inspections and take strict action against violators to safeguard consumers and ensure the availability of safe and hygienic food across Goa.
