According to reports, the FDA officials raided the premises after ascertaining that the various kinds of sauces, which were used in preparation of Gobi Manchurian dishes, were substandard, unsafe and misbranded. As many as 3820 bottles of the sauces were later destroyed by FDA officials.
Commenting on the raid at the Marcaim factory, Senior FDA Officer Rajiv Korde said the FDA had taken samples of various sauces during the recent Exposition of St Francis Xavier and other Hindu festivals.
After inspecting the samples, the FDA confirmed that the sauces were substandard and unsafe for consumption and decided to raid the factory manufacturing these sauces.
“Besides this factory, there are also 7-8 substandard sauce products in the market and we are in the process of tracing these factories,” said Korde.
The raiding team was headed by SFSO Rajiv Korde and FSOs, Flavia De Souza and Rajaram Patil.
