FDA goofs up food safety of four basmati rice samples

PANJIM: The Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) on Thursday goofed-up over food safety of four samples of basmati rice.

After initially issuing a statement, appealing people not to consume Daawat Pulav Basmati Rice with Batch No (A1) 60018038,  Daawat Traditional Basmati Rice with Batch No (A1) 60017014,  Daawat Pulav Basmati Rice with Batch No (A1) 60016202 and Heritage Basmati Rice with Batch No (A1) 60016857 over poor quality, the FDA soon clarified that Daawat Traditional  and Pulav Basmati Rice are already withdrawn from the market.

The samples were tested in June 2021 and subsequently the company has withdrawn all the stock of Daawat Traditional Basmati Rice with Batch No. (A1) 60017014,  Daawat Pulav Basmati Rice with Batch No. (A1) 60016202 from the local market and hence no stock is available in the market.

“The matter is under further investigation as per provisions of the FSSA 2006,” the department said.
