PANJIM: On the day when State government extended the contract for supply of mid-day meals of self help groups for the current academic year, Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) ordered the closure of a kitchen run by SHG Bhumika Mahila Mandal at Dhavem for having unhygienic conditions.
The group was providing food to nearly 932 students from nine different schools in and around Valpoi. The SHG was marred in controversy in the past due to food poisoning cases and complaints of unhealthy food.
During the inspection FDA found that the food cooked was prepared under extremely unhygienic conditions, the official said. The officials also found that it was operating from an unlicensed premises.
FDA has also written to the regional Education Department office to direct the schools not to accept the food supplied by the self help group until further orders.
The raid was conducted by a team comprising Food Safety Officers Rajaram Patil, Shivdas Naik, Madhav Kavlekar, Shruti Pilarnkar and assisted by Arjun Naik and Pradeep Parsekar.
