FDA raids eight stalls at Old Goa

OLD GOA: The Foods and Drug Administration (FDA) on Tuesday raided about eight stalls at Old Goa, as a precautionary measure in view of the feast of St Francis Xavier on Wednesday.

FDA Director Salim Velji along with senior Food Safety Inspector Rajiv Korde, Food Inspector Rajaram Patil and Shailesh besides chemist Deepa Naik, Maria Coutinho raided the Cobi Manchurad stalls at Old Goa.
Speaking to Herald, Korde said they raided the stalls and after inspecting they found that the stalls were involved in selling food items that were violating the food safety norms.
“About 350 kgs of Cobi Manchurad, which was to be fried, were disposed. Besides, the mixture was also disposed. Licences of three stall owners were cancelled,” informed Korde.
“There are several more such stalls and we will continue the inspection to protect the health of the people, especially the children, who consume such unhygenic food. The raid was conducted under sections of Food Safety and Standard Act 2006,” added Korde and cautioned that food safety norms violation will not tolerated at any cost.
