VASCO: Continuing with its drive against spurious and unhygienically-prepared food items, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) continued its surprise checks at the onset of Diwali in Vasco on Friday.
The FDA team also raided sweet, farsan and ice-cream manufacturing units located Near Hotel Taniya in Vasco. According to the information, during the raid FDA officials also noticed that the units were unlicensed, with food (farsan/ice cream) items being manufactured in unhygienic and insanitary conditions.
The FDA officials have also directed the owners to stop all manufacturing activities with immediate effect.
“During the raid we have confiscated stock worth Rs 3.5 lakhs and the same has been destroyed. The offenders involved are Jatharam Bhati, who was manufacturing farsan/sweet and Jamnalal Gurjar, who was manufacturing local-made ice-cream. We have also confiscated 400 kg of spurious mawa,” said Senior FSO Rajiv Korde.
Action will be initiated against the offenders, as per the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, he added.
The team also included FSOs Zenia Rosario, Sneha Sawant and staff members Sudhakar Parsekar and Pradeep Parsekar.
