MARGAO: Fearing the Code of Conduct for panchayat elections may be imposed at any point of time, Benaulim locals on Thursday urged the village panchayat to hold the gram sabha on April 24, instead of May 1 in order to deliberate on the western bypass issue.
A meeting of villagers was also held in Benaulim to decide upon the future course of action with regard to western bypass, wherein social activist Roshan Matias also attended the same.
In a letter to the panchayat, John Barretto, Benaulim local, urged for gram sabha possibly by April 24.
He stated that through the media he came to know about the gram sabha scheduled on May 1, to discuss on the issues pertaining to western bypass and installation of sewage pipeline to release treated water in River Sal.
Meanwhile, few villagers of Benaulim gathered on Thursday afternoon to deliberate on the future course of action with regard to the same. Activists Roshan, besides Royla Fernandes, and others guided on the issue.
