MARGAO: In order to resolve the much discussed and long pending issue of garbage, Waste Management Minister Babush Monserrate along with Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane will inspect the Sonsoddo dump yard in the next week, as the visit scheduled on Thursday stand cancelled.
Monserate, who was supposed to visit the Sonsoddo dump yard on Thursday, is expected to inspect the site in the next week, informed Agnelo Fernandes, Chief Officer, MMC.

“We have been informed that both the ministers will be visiting the site in order to take stock of the situations at Sonsoddo and deliberate on the issue, aiming to resolve it once and for all”, he said.
It is pertinent to note that the issue pertaining to Sonsoddo dump yard is pending for the last several decades. In the recent times even the then Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar, besides former Deputy Chief Minister, who is also the MLA of Fatorda Vijai Sardesai along with former waste management minister Michael Lobo had made hard efforts to resolve the issue, but failed. Shockingly, the attempts made by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant were left in waste.
However, now Monserrate and Vishwajit, ministers in the Dr Sawant cabinet pledged to resolve the issue at the earliest.
Reacting on the issue, Lyndon Pereira, Chairperson, MMC expressed high hopes from the two ministers, and praised them for showing interest in resolving the long pending issue of Sonsoddo.
“Yes, it is a good sign that both the ministers have shown interest in the issue. Certainly, we will brief them about the Sonsodo in detail so that some solutions will be taken”, he said.
It is pertinent to note that a proposed 25 TPD plant at the Sonsoddo is yet to see the light of the day. At the same time the recent fire incidents, besides the collapsed wall had created major hurdles before the civic body to tackle the problem.
