PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar remained tightlipped on the ongoing controversy concerning the Medium of Instruction (MoI) claiming it would affect talks with the Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM).
“Talks are underway. Any comment at this stage could affect talks with BBSM,” he said on Thursday.
The CM’s statement comes a day after his meeting with BBSM leaders failed to come up with a solution. BBSM has refused to go back on its demand that grants to Diocesan-backed primary schools be stopped.
BBSM was, however, unhappy as the meeting brought no assurance from Parsekar to resolve the crisis. “He has called for another meeting. We stand by our demands,” BBSM leader Subhash Velingkar had said.
Reacting to Velingkar’s stance against the government, Parsekar stated that the former is on his ‘felicitation committee’. The BJP has formed a 109-member committee headed by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar to felicitate Parsekar on his 60th birthday on July 4. “He (Velingkar) was and still is my guide,” the CM said in a probable attempt to reach out to the BBSM and RSS.
