PONDA: MGP leaders from Ponda have called upon all the party workers and those who quit the party and joined other parties to come to the rescue of the oldest regional party founded in 1963 for “the welfare of the Bahujan Samaj in Goa.”
Addressing a press conference in Ponda on Sunday, Central Committee member Pradeep Bhakle implored the present and past party workers to come to the rescue of MGP, which the “BJP is trying to eliminate.”
He said that MGP was responsible for taking education to every nook and corner of Goa and enacting the Agricultural Tenancy Act by which the tillers became owners of the land. It was the educational policy of the MGP that made the Bahujans educated and live a good life, he said.
He accused the BJP of ditching MGP after using the party as a ladder to climb to power. “In 1994, the MGP entered into an alliance with BJP which was an insignificant party at that time. After using MGP to grab power, the BJP now wants to eliminate the regional party,” he lamented.
Bhakle implored former party workers to return to MGP fold to teach a lesson to BJP and eliminate the party from the Goan political field. He said that he was confident that MGP would win 12 of the 22 seats would be contesting.
When asked why the MGP was aligning with the BJP again and again when the latter is trying to eliminate the former, a confused Bhakle said, “such a decision is taken by the Central Committee of Party.” Incidentally, Bhakle is a member of the same committee.
The press briefing team included Bandora ZP member Chitra Fadte, Bandora Sarpanch Nayan Naik, Panchas Sulaksha Naik, Pandurang Naik, Suryakant Naik and Teli Fadte.
