MARGAO: A group of residents staying on the Cavelossim ferry bridge road has raised eyebrows over the construction of seven-meter approach road and called for expediting the process of aligning and acquiring the bypass road on a priority basis.
The residents feared that once the seven-meter road is complete, no action will be taken to complete the bypass road. They pointed out that when the bridge was proposed, a resolution was taken in 2011 by the Cavelossim Panchayat stating that the bypass road will be completed and people staying on the existing road will not face any difficulties.
A local resident Kennedy Afonso said the government had earlier acquired 10 meters of land for the existing MDR road. “A resolution was also taken in 2011 that this existing MDR road should be dropped and the bypass road should be considered as MDR. “If this road is to be de-notified in the near future, it does not make any sense to waste public money to broaden it to seven meters, and then have another alternative bypass road, at the expense of our fields, and costs of the exchequer”, he added.
The residents have made a fervent prayer to widen the road to 5-6 meters wherever applicable without destroying any compound walls and houses since this is a temporary road until the bypass process is completed
They have decided to submit a memorandum to the local MLA Caitu Silva and hand copies to the village panchayat as well.
