PANJIM: Goa witnessed its warmest February in more than 50 years, as the state reported highest number of days exceeding maximum temperature of 35 Degree Celsius since 1969.
As per the data released by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa observatory, both Panaji and Mormugao station recorded mean maximum temperature of 34.5 Degree celcius and 34.2 Degree Celsius for the month of February, which is highest since 1969.
Before this, for Panjim it was in 2013, when the highest mean maximum temperature was recorded at 33.7 Degree Celsius while for Mormugao it was 33.2 Degree Celsius in 2006.
The number of days on which maximum temperature exceeded 35 °C in Mormugao in February 2023 was also highest in 54 years. While in Mormugao, the maximum temperature exceeded 35 Degree Celsius on eight occasions, in Panjim it was for ten different days. Panjim in the past has seen such high temperature at eleven occasions in 2006.
Throughout the month, the maximum and minimum temperature remained above normal.
