Female foreign inmates assault lady staff at Colvale Central Jail

On Friday morning, when the two accused persons were asked to go back into their respective cells, they refused and started creating a ruckus. They further argued with the matron and subsequently assaulted her.

Mapusa: Two foreign female inmates attacked a lady staff of Colvale Central Jail named Jayashree Vengurlekar (53). The attackers have been booked by the police.

A resident of Colvale, Vengurlekar is working as a matron at the Colvale Central Jail. She was assaulted by two foreign national inmates. The accused were identified as Jenet (Nigerian) and Prishala (Ghana).

According to sources, the incident occurred at around 10.30 am. Sources said that between 8 am to 10 am, the female inmates are allowed to come out of their cells in the open for a certain period of time.

As per the information, one inmate punched the victim on her stomach while the other pushed her with a stick. The victim was immediately shifted to North District Hospital and is presently undergoing treatment. Colvale police have registered an offence under section 353, 323 r/w 34 IPC (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty and punishment for voluntarily causing hurt).
