POINGUINIM: The Canacona Forest Department trapped a female leopard at Poinguinim. The forest personnel had laid a trap in the forest region after the locals complained that a leopard had gone astray and was entering the village at night.
The leopard aged about 3 years was lured into the trap where a dog was tied in a separate compartment in the same cage as bait. The locals found the trapped leopard and the forest department took the animal in its possession and shifted it to the Animal Rescue Center at Hatipal-Poinguinim.
Ashok Pagi of Mahalwada- Poinguinim, living in a nearby village, said last night till early morning the villagers were kept awake by the roaring sound from another leopard and said they informed the forest department of this activity.
