PANJIM: Owing to the construction of a bundh in Divar, River Navigation Department (RND) has diverted one of its ferry boats operating along the Naroa-Divar route to the island to facilitate early completion of the work.
The Naroa-Divar route has four passenger boats plying during the day with an additional boat joining the fleet during peak hours. However, due to the ongoing work, which is being carried out by the Water Resources Department, the fifth ferry boat has been sent to the new place.
“The construction of bundh is important as it needs to be completed before the onset of the monsoon. The ferry boat will be back to its old route within 10 days,” said an RND  official adding that all rules were followed before giving the ferry boat for the project. “The temporary arrangement is done in the interest of the work,” he added.
As many as 2.5 lakh commuters use the ferry service along around 20 routes on a daily basis. The department added three boats recently while solar powered boats will also be inducted this year.
