PANJIM: Ferry boat operations on the Chorao-Ribandar route were disrupted on Friday morning, as one of the five ferry boats plying on the route broke down.
Commuters from either side of the Mandovi River faced hardships, as they were held up for a long duration to cross the river, even one ambulance got stuck on the Chorao side of the river.
The adjoining roads at the ferry ramps on the Chorao side were full of bikes and cars, a section of the motorists jumped the queue and it led to chaos at the site.
River Navigation Department Superintendent Vikramsingh Raje Bhosle admitted that the ferry services were disrupted; he however, claimed that the broken boat was repaired and pressed back in the service.
“One of the ferry boats broke down due to a snag and as it happened during the peak time there was a rush at Chorao ferry ramp. It has been repaired and made operational. The traffic is back to normal,” Bhosle said.
