PANJIM: A delegation of All Goa Freedom Fighters Association will on Saturday visit the Fort Aguada jail on Saturday, to ascertain themselves about the sale of alcohol there by the private agency.
All Goa Freedom Fighters Association Treasurer Rohidas ‘Dad’ Desai said that he and General Secretary Gurudas Kunde will visit the Aguada jail on Saturday morning and check for themselves whether alcohol is served to the visitors there. Freedom Fighter’s son journalist Sandesh Prabhudesai is also expected to join us during the visit, he said.

Meanwhile, expressing their dismay on the incidence of brazen sale of alcohol in the Aguada Fort premises, the Navjeevan Society of Freedom Fighters and the All Goa Freedom Fighters Association Society on Friday urged the State government and associated departments to reconsider its decision permitting sale of alcohol at Fort Aguada by the private agency, in order to maintain the sanctity of the site, so intertwined with Goa’s struggle for liberation.
The Aguada Fort was used as a central jail to hold and punish dissenters to the Portuguese rule. It has borne witness to the struggle and supreme sacrifices of so many members of freedom fighter community, they said, appealing to the government not to allow defiling the veritable temple of freedom.
