Panjim: The inaugural edition of the ‘Festa do Povo,’ a festival celebrating the vibrant spirit of Goa, is poised to captivate the iconic Latin Quarter of Fontainhas in Panaji. The festival, scheduled for December 9 and 10, is an initiative led by a collaborative effort of renowned musicians, culinary artists, local businesses, and citizens with the support of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP).
The two-day celebration will kick off at the St. Sebastiao ward on December 9, from 7 pm to 10 pm, followed by festivities at the Sao Tome ward on December 10, from 6 pm to 10 pm. The festival aims to revive the cultural richness of the city’s communities and provide a platform for citizens to come together, showcasing the essence of Goa.
One of the highlights of the ‘Festa do Povo’ will be the array of delectable food stalls, offering a blend of Goan and Portuguese flavours. Residents of St. Sebastiao ward will prepare Goan-centric dishes, including feijoada, apa de camarao, pasteis de nata, and traditional Goan snacks. Local bars and restaurant owners will also set up stalls, adding to the culinary diversity.
Russell Pinto’s stall, ‘Pinto Sando,’ will serve traditional Goan bread loaded with beef, pork, and vegetarian fillings. Mo’s Cafe will offer modern Goan-Japanese poee sandwiches and festive beverages. Tataki-Immersive Asian Dining will present a fusion of pan-Asian elements with hints of Portuguese and Goan cuisine, featuring delights like pork and cherry vindaloo dim sum and Goan pork chorizo bao buns.
The festivity route will commence from opposite O’ Pierre, featuring performances by the children’s choir ‘Ektaal,’ playing Christmas carols. Bands like ‘Still Waters’ and ‘Sound of Music’ will revive old vibes with jazz and retro music, creating an ambience of joy and celebration.
The ‘Festa do Povo’ promises to be a unique blend of local culture, music, and gastronomy, bringing residents and visitors together to experience the vibrant and diverse spirit of Goa. The event is set to become a recurring celebration, fostering community bonds and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the state.
