Loud music permitted till midnight

PANJIM: In a relief to revellers, the State government will grant permissions to play loudspeakers till midnight on case to case basis, during the festive season including on the concluding day of Carnival. The traditional festival will be held from March 1 to March 4.
The government has directed the authorities to permit the use of loudspeakers or public address system during the night hours between 10 pm to 12 midnight, during the current calendar year in a gazette notification. The permissions are granted as per sub-rule (3) of Rule 5 of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rule 2000.
Government has specified that the permissions shall be granted only on case-to-case basis, in response to a specific application made by the concerned village panchayat, municipal corporations or an individual during festivals. The festivals that are included are Carnival, Holi, Easter eve, Ganesh Chathurti (second, fifth and 11 day of festival), Navaratri (first and last day), Kojagiri Poornima, Diwali eve, Diwali, Tripurari Poornima, Christmas eve, Christmas and New Year eve.
“The provisions of the Noise Pollution (Regulation & Control) Rules, 2000 shall be strictly complied with,” the notification reads.
The concerned authorities, appointed to monitor the noise level in the State are been directed to initiate remedial action against those, who are found violating the rules.
