MARGAO: Despite issuing a warning, Chief Officer of Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Agnelo Fernandes on Saturday lamented that though the festive season is over, posters with Christmas and New Year wishes put up by political parties and individuals continue to deface public property in town’s municipal jurisdiction.
It may be recalled that the CO had issued a warning last week and said that he has exhausted all options and is forced to notify all departments under the Goa Defacement Act.
“Under the above Act Section 5, the bettor is also responsible for defacement. When these parties and individuals put up posters, hoardings and stick bills, posters on public property, it is their responsibility to bring them down once the purpose is fulfilled”, he said.
The MMC has to unnecessarily depute staff to remove the banners and other advertising material, which deviate them (staff) from other important works. They have to undertake as part of MMC’s continuous process to keep Margao clean, said CO.
