Few issues left as UD minister helps with problems

Ward 5 needs upgrading of sewerage system and a retaining wall to avoid catastrophic landslide

VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council and the area coming under are blessed to have the presence of the Urban Development Minister Milind Naik. Ward number 1 to Ward number 5 come under Headland Sada plateau which mostly comprises MPT Port, residential areas and other establishments related to Central Govt and some institutions.

Looking at the upcoming civic polls the development in these wards, which is the need of the hour, has taken place to some extent but there are still some issues which the councillors or the authorities have failed to solve totally.

In 2015 municipal election, Sandesh Mesta won in Ward 1. His area comprises MPT colony stretch in Sada, Japanese garden area and the end point of the Sada region. The area comprises residential quarters of Central Govt and MPT employees, Waste Treatment Plant, etc, which leaves very little scope to undertake any remarkable work. Some locals though said that some pavers have been installed and basic cleaning work has been done.

There are still some issues which people face. Some of these are bad internal roads, stray dogs and cattle, overflowing of garbage, water shortage, etc.

In ward 2, Bhawana Bhosle was councilor. The area is the main location of Sada from the Bus stop till MPT colony area. People say that the basic works such as putting pavers wherever required, cleaning of drains, grass cuttings, trimming of overgrown branches and other such civic works have been done in this ward. The ward comprises houses, shops establishments, etc.

This ward is affected by the coal dust. There is also a parking issue. One of the best touristic spots known as Pilot Point, an attraction in the past, has now gone to dogs.

Ward 3 had Shashikant Parab as a councillor who was a BJP supporter and had the blessing of Urnam Development minister. Ward 3 area is from Siddharudh Sawani matth till Sada temple and from Chafeshwar temple till JRB colony. Some locals say that in this ward a playground was built, drains were constructed, pavers were put up.

Although there is a Parking issue, garbage is seen piled up and debris is also scattered in this area. Another issue is that the newly built market cum community hall complex project at the Headland Sada has turned into a White elephant and is yet to open to the public.

In Ward 4, Damodar Kaskar was the councillor, who is also a BJP supporter. Ward 4 area in the neighbouring area of ward 3 which is the Govt Primary School Sada and interior area. People in this area said that some basic work has been done such as pavers have been put up, drains were built, and other such cleanliness related work has been done. In this ward too there is a parking issue as the people residing here tend to park their vehicles at the roadside due to unavailability of parking space. Also it is visible that garbage is seen piled up in many places.

Coming down from Headland Sada area, ward 5 had a councillor Sarita Palkar. Ward 5 comprises the area from Jetty till Rumdawado which comprises of residential houses on hilly region. This area is at close proximity of the port operations especially the coal handling is visible from the elevated place like ward 5 area. The basic work such as fogging, putting pavers, drainage cleaning, etc, have been done.

But there are still issues which people face such as danger of landslides, etc. One person named Parshuram said that there is a need to upgrade the drainage system in this ward without which the sewage is often seen overflowing on the roads. Also there is a need to build retaining wall to avoid catastrophic landslide.
