PANJIM: Several high-ranking police officers have been on leave for over a week with just three IPS officers – Director General of Police T N Mohan, Deputy Inspector General of Police V Renganathan and Superintendent of Police Atmaram Deshpande – holding the reins in the State.
Deshpande has over nine additional charges including his own departments as SP Priyanka Kashyap is on leave, while PHQ SP Vishram Borkar has extended his leave this Friday.
The two officers are expected to join work in the coming week.
The woman IPS officer was recently transferred as SP of Foreigners’ Regional Registration Office with additional charges of Anti Terrorist Squad, Wireless, State Police Control Room and Special Branch from North Goa SP. SP Umesh Gaonkar now holds the charge of North Goa.
In addition to these, Deshpande – originally posted as SP of Police Training School at Valpoi, Vigilance (legal) and State Crime Records Bureau – also holds two more charges of Security and Indian Reserve Battalion, which were earlier held by SP Vaman Tari until his retirement on January 31, 2015.
