Fibreglass catches fire, emits poisonous flumes in Bicholim

BICHOLIM: Fear gripped the residents of Maina-Navelim in Bicholim Taluka when fibreglass caught fire emitting poisonous flumes in the area. 

According to the available information, the incident occurred at about 1.30 pm, when grass fire waste of fibreglass caught fire.

The residents, especially the children and old people, were shifted to nearby fields to avoid any contact with the poisonous gases. 

“The fire was caused because of grass fire which also gutted the fibreglass. We used five fire tenders to douse the fire. The scrap was kept there and it caused this fire,” Fire Officer Shripad Gawas said. 

The local panch Digambar Naik said that they had requested the company to shift the scrap but they did not pay any heed to their request. “This is every year’s accident and now we have also requested the Chief Minister to look into the matter,” Naik said.
