PORVORIM: There was an uproar in the Goa Assembly on Friday quoting CN that the Nauxim Marina was a green project and would create jobs. Velim MLA Cruz Silva during question hour said that it would have negative impact on the environment and destroy the livelihoods of the local fishermen.
He said if the Environment Impact Assessment report had said it would have negative impact on the environment, endanger the window pane oysters at Sancoale and was rejected there, why is it being dumped to Nauxim?
At this Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira said the circumstances were different and the biodiversity was different.
Vijai Sardesai questioned how did the MPT sign a lease deed with Khargal Constructions in 2010 when the land did not belong to the MPT.
CM said the project had not been given clearance and a public hearing would be held. Regarding the issue of land Minister Aleixo Sequeira said a meeting would be held with the Advocate General regarding ownership of land and asked MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira to join him.
