PANJIM: Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai on Friday said that his and the party’s immediate priority are to restore the integrity and future of Goa.
Commenting on the numerous troubles and issues Goa is facing, Sardesai said that the extent of damage the BJP government has done through their manufactured majority is leading Goa to the pits, and we must come together immediately to save Goa now.
The GFP chief has branded his call for a united Opposition as Team Goa — urging all political parties to come together to stop the BJP in the upcoming municipal and Assembly elections.
Sardesai stated that he and the Goa Forward Party are determined at all costs to ‘Save Goa Now’ the party’s signature campaign saying, “ours is a fight to save the soul and heart of Goa.”
Questioned on the statement, he said, “The soul of Goa are its people, its children, its aspiration and hopes -– which day by day is under threat as this government under Dr Pramod Sawant only looks to trouble. The heart of Goa is our environment, our culture and heritage. Both the soul and heart are at stake and we must save it at any and all costs.”
Over the past month, Sardesai has taken the charge against the government calling out its mismanagement and inaction of key pressing issues of the State.
The Fatorda MLA at the last Assembly session highlighted the State’s ongoing troubles over the Lokayukta amendments, Mhadei diversion and the three linear projects in Mollem.
Sardesai has also rallied the young local voices of Goa to urge the international community from UNESCO, ICOMOS and IUCN to introspect into possible government violations into UNESCO protected sites from Old Goa to Mollem.
Furthermore, he reiterated that he and the party remain steadfast in exposing the BJP-led government so that the people know their true intentions.
He pointed out that “it was this government that sought to bring forward the unthinkable idea of ganja cultivation, while at the same time opening up Goa for tourists and putting our children and teachers in harm’s way of holding offline exams.”
Sardesai hit out at the government’s insensitivity towards its approach at the rising number of COVID-19 cases saying that “this government will never learn from its mistakes; this is a shameless bunch -– only focused on keeping their New Delhi bosses and their friends happy.”
He concluded urging the people to unite under the Team Goa umbrella calling to bring an end to a BJP reign of the state’s politics and governance.
