Filing of nominations ends today

Over 6000 nominations received for panchayat polls

PANJIM/MARGAO:  With just a day left to file nominations for the upcoming panchayat polls in the State scheduled on June 11, the State Election Commission has received 6047 nominations for the 186 village panchayats.
In North Goa there are 3140 nominations while there are 2907 nominations in South Goa. On Wednesday, Returning Officers across the State accepted 1825 nomination of which 813 in North Goa and 1012 in South Goa. 
There are 1522 wards spread across 186 panchayats that will go to the polls on June 11. The counting is schedule to take place on June 13. Filings of nominations began on May 18, and ends on May 25. 
In all 325 nominations were filed on the penultimate day for filing nominations before the three returning officers at Margao. While 141 nominations were filed before the mamlatdar, 105 were filed before Joint Mamlatdar I and 79 before Joint Mamlatdar II.
Cana Benaulim panchayat where 29 nominations were filed had the highest number followed by Davorlim Dicarpale where 17 nominations were filed.
