Sao jose de areal: The Velim MLA and WRD Minister Filipe Nery Rodrigues, was surrounded and faced a long list of questions from the protestors at the Sao Jose De Areal level crossing. The people have demanded that if the Government does not listen to the voices of the MLAs, then they should withdraw support to the Government. Rodrigues responded by saying he will raise all the concerns of the people at the cabinet meeting that is happening on Wednesday.
The people of Sao Jose De Areal, who had earlier asked for the demarcation of the land for the second track, after the discussion, stated that since they don’t want the second track, they don’t want the demarcation. The Panchayat too stated that they were not in the loop while acquiring the land.
The protesters questioned the MLA, who is a cabinet minister in the BJP Government, about how the work is still continuing, even after the Chief Minister had claimed to have stopped the work of double-tracking.
“Offences are being registered against the people protesting the works. There is no action being taken against the police officials who have exceeded their brief. They are threatening the people of Goa,” complained the crowd of people and protestors before the Minister.
The protestors further added that the persons protesting are common men of Goa, who are being treated as protestors by the police by registering offences against them and bringing in armed police.
“What did you 10 MLAs get by supporting the BJP? If it is not possible to scrap the projects, then the MLAs should very well remove their support given to the Government” urged the protestors.
“I will raise all the issues put forth by the people before the cabinet in the meeting that is supposed to be held on Wednesday. I am with the people on this issue,” the Minister replied, while expressing his discontent over the police aggression.
“The job of the police is to maintain law and order and not to threaten people. I will take up the issue of the police before the Chief Minister and will also tell him that the police which have been brought from other States, be sent back” he added.
