Film shootings to be allowed at Central Jail, Colvale

... with strict conditions applied

PANJIM: In probably a first, film shootings at the state-of-the-art Central Jail at Colvale will be allowed with strict conditions and within designated space. 

The government has also notified charges for carrying out film shooting only at designated space between Gate ‘A’ and Gate ‘B’ of the Central Jail. 

The charges for half day shooting is fixed at Rs 5,000 while for a full day, the charges will be Rs 10,000. The permission is an attempt to explore a new shooting location and to also earn revenue. 

“The applicant shall take prior permission/ NOC from Inspector General of Prison, Panjim-Goa and shall pay the requisite charges in advance in the Government Treasury. The permission shall be issued based on terms and conditions,” it said. 

The set of conditions include no obstruction/hindrance to the operation and working of prison, film shooting to be done only at the designated time as specified by the prison authority, film shooting should not cover any prison staff or prisoners and official and statutory signboards of the prisons shall be covered during the film shooting.

The government has also directed film shooting unit members not to establish any contact or interact with the prisoners whole giving powers to prisons authority to impose additional conditions as deemed fit. 

“The Inspector General of Prisons shall ensure compliance to guidelines issued by Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, Goa Prison Manual and Goa Prisons Rules, 2021 while issuing the permission/NOC for the film shooting at Space between Gate ‘A’ and Gate ‘B’ of Central Jail, Colvale. Inspector General of Prisons shall submit annual returns of film shooting and the revenue generated to the government in the month of May of every year,” the notification states.
