CANACONA: As mostly witnessed in Bollywood films, a Karnataka registered car fell off the Talpona bridge which is under construction after trying to escape from the accident site wherein the car had hit a two-wheeler at Chaudi bazaar on Friday.
As if some bad omen has gripped Canacona, the taluka is witnessing accidents regularly since the beginning of this week.
On the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, a Kerala registered Scorpio hit head on a huge tree standing by the road at Partagal injuring all of the occupants grievously.
Sources said that the occupants of the SUV, all from Kerala, were returning home after playing in a casino in Goa.
In the second mishap reported at Rajbagh, a car after trying to escape from locals after hitting a two-wheeler at Chaudi market landed over its top almost 10 mts below the new bridge at Talpona River.
Sources said that the car driver suspected to be under the influence of alcohol took the under-construction bypass NH66 road when he realised that at least two vehicles were chasing him.
As he sped along the wide new road, suddenly after a curve he saw a metal barricade along the entire width of the road.
Panic stricken, he slammed the breaks and as the car was moving at high speed it got dragged for at least 20 mts before plunging down, missing the river water by meters.
Locals rushed and helped the occupants mostly in their twenties to come out of the ill-fated car which was on its top side down.
The car got totally damaged with the impact from such a height while all of the occupants were seriously hurt with life threatening injuries sources said.
