PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has postponed to April 19 the final arguments in the British teenager Scarlett Eden Keeling case challenging the acquittal of the accused.
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that had investigated the case had challenged the acquittal of the two accused, Samson D’Souza and Placido Carvalho, by the Goa Children’s Court.
In February 2017, CBI had moved the High Court challenging the acquittal. The investigating agency had said that the trial court had wrongly concluded that the statements of the witnesses cannot be relied upon. CBI also said that the trial court judge failed to appreciate the facts and law points involved in the case.
Scarlett’s bruised corpse was found on Anjuna beach on February 18, 2008. The case, which was initially investigated by Goa Police, was later handed over to CBI by the government after Scarlett’s mother, Fiona Mackeown, raised doubts on the investigations.
