PANJIM, SEPT 16
The Bombay High Court at Goa today adjourned the final arguments in the petitions filed by casino operators to Tuesday (September 20).
The Division Bench comprising of Justices D G Karnik and F M Reis adjourned the hearing after the advocates appearing for casino operators sought the Cabinet’s recent decision to repositioning of off-shore casino vessels.
The government on Wednesday decided to relocate the off-shore casino vessels at various points within Mandovi River as against its earlier decision to shift them off into the sea.
In an oral statement, the advocates offered to withdraw the petitions if the government’s decision was acceptable.
It is learnt that all seven casino vessels currently anchored on the Panjim side of Mandovi River would be relocated.
While three vessels would be anchored towards Ribander village, four others would be located at either side of Mandovi bank – Panjim and Betim village.
The State Cabinet in February 2009 had decided to shift these vessels away from Mandovi River after strong protests from citizens groups.
The floating casino managements of Maharajah, Caravela, Leela, Casino Royale, Arabian Sea King and Pride of Goa later moved High Court against the government’s decision.
