PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Friday fixed for final hearing into a petition challenging the constitutional validity of notification bestowing Lifetime Cabinet status on former Chief Minister Pratapsingh Raoji Rane, to August 10.
The Division Bench of Justice M S Sonak and Justice R N Laddha gave two weeks time to petitioner Advocate Aires Rodrigues to file his rejoinder to the replies filed by the State Government and Rane.
Rodrigues in his petition has drawn the High Court’s attention to the manner in which the Pramod Sawant-led cabinet hurriedly resolved on January 6, 2022 to confer Rane with Lifetime Cabinet status.
He alleged that there was no legal power vested in the Government for conferment of such status and it cannot be made in the garb of exercise of executive powers.
