CANACONA: It was a happy ending after months of wrangling as a schoolgirl from Canacona resumed studies at her school at Poinguinim
The issue, which had generated a huge debate between the school PTA, child activists and the government, was resolved with a government-appointed special tutor also joining Shre Shradhanand Vidyalaya on Friday. An assistant is expected to join the school shortly.
“As soon as the education department issued orders to appoint special instructor and a helper, the girl’s parents were requested to send their girl back to the school from Friday,” Shree Shradhanand Dhyanprasak Mandal President Arun Bhat.
“We expect the assistant/helper to join the school within the next 1 to 2 days and till then, the girl’s mother, who is aware of the need of special assistance to her child, has agreed to accompany her child during schooling hours,” informed Bhat.
“The girl is considered a special child with full cooperation from the girl’s parents and also with the assistance of other children’s parents but she is certainly not treated as an untouchable,” added Bhat.
“The school management had given admission to the schoolgirl solely due to our concern to help the child and in this task, we have been assured support by the girl’s parents and parents of other students,” he said.
“The girl is presently being given education separately in special facilities in the school. It is for her benefit such an arrangement was considered necessary. We hope that the girl is eventually able to take up her schooling like any other normal student,” said Bhat.
